Housing Choice Voucher Program
Dane County Housing Authority administers the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program/Section 8 Program, which assists eligible low-income families and individuals in obtaining affordable, decent, sanitary, and safe housing in the Dane County area. Our jurisdiction is all of Dane County except the City of Madison, which is covered by the CDA of the City of Madison.

The HCV Program is a major federal government program helping very low income families, the elderly, and disabled afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing.​ Both Project Based Vouchers (PBVs) and regular tenant based Housing Choice Vouchers (what most people think of when they think of Section 8) fall under this category.

Applicants are referred through Dane County Human Services.
Veteran Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) Vouchers
Applicants are referred by the VA.
Coordinated Entry Referral Waiting List for Project Based Vouchers (PBVs)
Applicants currently experiencing homelessness are referred from the Housing Priority List by partnering Homeless Service Orgnazations in the Continuum of Care (CoC) to fill select units with PBVs in Dane County.
